Jacob is a recent graduate of Cal Poly Pomona’s Collins College of Hospitality Management. He has spent many years working with youth in different capacities as well and working with food. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Organizational Leadership and Learning from Pepperdine.

He is a founding member and creator of Plants 4 the People, wanting to help educate about sustainable food habits and diverse food culture. Jacob is excited to be bringing his ideas to life and aims to push Plants 4 the People forward in the coming years.

Jacob is a physics major at Cal Poly Pomona in addition to being a youth cross country coach. With a passion for making an impact on today’s youth and an interest in learning more about food, Jacob is excited to get to work and make an impact in his community and beyond.

Louis has an amazing background in gardening. He was born and raised in the garden, it’s in his DNA. His father was a master gardener/ horticulturist. He learned many traits from him growing up on how to germinate a seed, propagation, composting, citrus trees, deciduous fruit trees, veggies and herbs. His father would take Louis to work with him to understand the business of merchandizing plants, organizing by plant type and lighting. Louis has 2 passions; gardening and filmmaking. He currently has a small business were he sells houseplants and seedlings starter plants of different veggies for the season at local farmers markets in LA county. He’s been running the business now for 2 years. His other experiences are in the water conservation industry, from media and education services. He worked for Green Media Creations for over 5 years doing outreach, marketing, program management, and education.

Accomplishments

  • Certified Producer for local farmers market. Sells seedlings, veggies, herbs, and citrus.

  • Conducted hands on workshops on landscape management using water conservation methods.

  • Hired by See-LA.ORG to teach edible gardening classes to elementary and middle school students within the farmers market zone.

  • Produced media content for the Crenshaw Farmers Market - signed Off by Market Manager.

As the former Principal of Sandburg Middle School, Eric's passion for creating unique educational opportunities for his students is positively contagious. Eric was instrumental in working with Plants 4 the People and the Glendora Unified School District on the planning, development, and fundraising efforts to bring this project to life.  As the Executive Director of Student and Family Support Services for the Glendora Unified School District, Eric will continue to work alongside, and in the dirt with Plants 4 the People and Sandburg's students and staff to ensure that the Spartan Garden is a model educational program for not only the students in Glendora, but the community as well.

Eric's passion for education, healthy living, conservation and sustainability, and kids makes him a wonderful addition to our diverse team.

Michael Thompson is currently a second year architecture student at Cal Poly Pomona from Glendora with an interest in urban planning, ecology, and design. He spends a lot of his free time running and learning about the world around him, which has quickly become his favorite pandemic pastime. He designed our garden layout for the Spartan Garden and has been an integral part in conceptualizing the garden.

Georgia Riggs is a high school senior practicing her work with social media and graphic design. Georgia is the designer of the Plants 4 the People logo as well as all of the social media. After graduating from Glendora High School this June she will head up to Washington to study at Gonzaga University! She’ll be majoring in psychology with a double minor in special education and leadership in the hopes of becoming a child psychologist. She loves everything graphic design and loves to help out with anything and everything!

Therese is currently a teacher at Goddard Middle School and over the last 3-4 years have developed a passion for gardening. She currently has 6 raised beds and 5 fruit trees in her backyard. She loves to continually learn ways to improve her garden and help others to learn more about how to grow their own food. Her canning expertise and creative fundraising ideas will enhance Plants 4 the People’s mission.

 

Samuel Stafford is currently serving in the Marine Corps as a Comptroller for the West Coast while also pursuing a degree in Business Administration. Samuel is passionate about community and hopes to create a better community for the next generation while also educating about healthy eating and nutrition. Samuel’s energy and enthusiasm for Plants 4 the People will push the organization to new heights.

 

Madison Farricker

Madison has many years of experience with local government, policy work, and youth programming. She believes in using events to deeply impact communities and encourage generational shifts towards sustainability. Madison joins the Plants 4 the People team as an event planner and curriculum specialist. She completed her degree in Environmental Policy from UC Davis, and is a Certified Sustainable Events Professional.

 

Liann is a graduate student studying Marriage and Family Therapy at University of La Verne. With a background in Psychology, she is looking to incorporate that into developing curriculum with Plants 4 the People. Liann has experience working with youth as well as involvement in the non-profit sector at the YMCA, creating guidelines and procedures for the team. She believes in connecting with others, engagement, learning, and fun!

Zane Landin

Digital Content and Social Media Creator

Zane Landin is a non-graduating senior from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He will graduate in December 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations. He has a strong passion for academics, design, social issues, disability rights, mental health, creative writing, and learning new things all the time. Upon graduation, he hopes to be accepted into the master’s program in strategic communication from Columbia University to work at a public relations firm, the government, a nonprofit, or a university. Zane is currently interning with General Motors!
